What happens if you reverse the drive side of the torque sensor and attach it to the load side?

(1) Installation of torque sensor
The detector is labeled "Drive Side" and installed with the drive unit on the "Drive Side" and the load unit on the opposite side. The instruction manual defines and explains the polarity of the + and - torque, and CW/CCW (clockwise/counterclockwise) based on this configuration. Please use the device with the correct installation to avoid discrepancies with the instruction manual.

(2) CW/CCW
When viewing the load side from the drive side, clockwise rotation of the shaft is defined as CW, and counterclockwise rotation as CCW. The CW/CCW switch on the detector and the CW/CCW setting on the TS display must be set to match the direction of shaft rotation.

(3) The role of the motor attached to the detector
As shown in the diagram explaining the principle, the detector is equipped with an attached motor. Due to the power generation method, a sine wave signal will not be generated unless the shaft rotates at several hundred r/min or more. Therefore, by using the attached motor to rotate the internal gear in the opposite direction to the shaft, it is possible to create a state where the gear is rotating relatively even when the shaft is rotating at zero, thereby enabling the extraction of a sine wave signal. Accordingly, selecting the CW/CCW switch on the detector will cause the gear to rotate in the opposite direction to the CW/CCW rotation of the shaft, respectively.

(4) When the attached motor is rotating in the same direction as the shaft, the measurement is
The included motor rotates at approximately 500-600 r/min, depending on the model. If it rotates in the same direction as the shaft, measurement is possible when the shaft rotation is approximately 200 r/min or less, but when it approaches 500-600 r/min, the relative rotation becomes zero, and a sine signal cannot be obtained, making measurement impossible.

(5) Measurement when the attached motor is stopped is
When the shaft rotation speed is 200 r/min or higher, the SIN signal can be obtained even with the attached motor stopped, allowing for measurements in both CW and CCW modes.

(6) Torque polarity
The torque display and voltage output of the TS calculation display unit have positive and negative polarity. This relates to the direction of rotation in (2), but the basic idea is that, taking a car engine as an example, if the rotation of the tires when moving forward is CW, then the actual engine load when going uphill is the positive pole torque, and the engine braking state when going down a steep slope is the negative pole torque. Similarly, if the rotation of the tires when reversing is CCW, then going uphill in reverse is the positive pole, and going downhill in reverse using engine braking is the negative pole.

When setting up CW

When a force acts to rotate the axis clockwise, the positive pole
When a force acts to rotate the axis counterclockwise, the pole

When set to CCW, the polarity is reversed compared to CW.

When a force acts to rotate the axis clockwise, -Pole
When a force acts to rotate the axis counterclockwise, the positive pole

(7) What happens if it is driven from the load side?
Measurement is possible. The detector's CW/CCW switch is used to switch the rotation direction of the attached motor, and the CW/CCW setting on the TS calculation display determines which direction the positive polarity corresponds to the twisting force on the torsion bar. Based on this, please apply the definition of polarity in section (6).

(8) If the torque sensor is installed with the drive side facing the load side instead,
Measurement is possible. Please carefully set the CW/CCW direction of the detector. Also, the polarity is the same as (6). There may be discrepancies with the instructions in the manual, so please install it correctly.

(9) ZERO adjustment
The zero point on the TS calculation display changes for CW and CCW, so please adjust the zero for each. The settings are saved via battery backup.
