Angle Axis Signal Measurement Software
ExAngle

Combustion analysis software that realizes an efficient development environment.

ExAngle is a versatile measurement device that has been restructured from our long-cultivated combustion analysis measurement technology, evolving beyond just measuring internal combustion engines to serve as a high-speed sampling universal measurement instrument for all types of rotating bodies.

EX-4100 ExAngle

This is a basic software that uses a 1MHz high-speed unit for combustion analysis, capable of recording with a minimum resolution of 0.05 degrees. It includes measurement functions equivalent to the following older products.

  • DS-0328T Transitional Measurement

  • DS-0335 SYNC Measurement

  • DS-0349 Pulse Period Measurement

  • DS-0360 Encoder-less Measurement

EX-0428 DS Combustion Analysis Function

It includes all the computational functions of the following old products, such as average effective pressure, combustion mass ratio, combustion variation rate, knocking peak, combustion noise, and torque.

  • DS-0328 Combustion Analysis

  • Analysis of Combustion Noise

  • DS-0329 Knocking Analysis

  • DS-0361 Torque Variation Analysis

EX-0436 DS combustion link function

ExAngle will be controlled from the bench-side system via LAN communication. It will enable the issuance of recording instructions and the sending and receiving of data.

EX-0483 CAN Function

The calculation results of ExAngle can be sent to the CAN bus, and CAN information from the vehicle can be received and recorded.

EX-0439 Knock Expert Function

By measuring engine radiation sound with a microphone, knocking can be quantified.

Customers using the conventional combustion analysis software (DS-0328):

Depending on the purchase date of your DS-3000 series hardware, a firmware update may be necessary (for units shipped around 2012 to 2016). In that case, the DS-3000 series hardware will need to be returned, and we will perform the update. For more details, please contact our sales office or a nearby retailer.

Features

  • It can be used not just for combustion analysis, but as a more general high-speed angle sampling measurement device.

  • Overcoming the weakness of monitors stopping with NonStop architecture. Constant monitoring is possible during dangerous tests.

  • In addition to the main recording, the sub-recording can also operate simultaneously, ensuring that no unintended sudden phenomena are missed.

  • The intuitive GUI suppresses human error by testers and is also useful for outsourcing testing operations and for overseas expansion.

Usage example: Enhancing monitoring capabilities for new fuel tests with NonStop monitor and sub-recording.

In order to achieve carbon neutrality, the importance of evaluating and verifying new fuels and new devices is increasing. With ExAngle, testing can be conducted safely and efficiently within limited development resources.

  • Usage example: Enhancing monitoring capabilities for new fuel tests with NonStop monitor and sub-recording.

ExAngle does not stop monitoring during data processing or file saving, allowing testers to perform their tasks without feeling anxious. Furthermore, it can conduct a secondary recording for abnormal monitoring in parallel with the main recording, enabling equipment protection while also preserving valuable abnormal data.

Options

Software option feature

EX-0428 DS Combustion Analysis Function

Real-time monitoring of combustion calculation results is performed. It is possible to analyze recorded data files and output them in text format.

easy-to-use software
theta diagram

Draw the waveforms of the calculation results for each angle. It is also possible to draw the theta diagram for the most recent three cycles.

PV diagram

A PV diagram is drawn based on the cylinder's stroke volume and internal pressure. Overlaying all cylinders can also be done easily.

pulse speed measurement

By calculating the pulse interval period from the signals measured by the pulse sensor, it is possible to confirm the rotational fluctuations of the crankshaft.

Torque fluctuation calculation

The engine torque generated on the crankshaft is calculated by considering the frictional and inertial forces from the cylinder pressure of each cylinder.

Knocking calculation

The presence of knocking in each cycle is determined based on pressure vibrations. Knocking peak values and judgment rates can be displayed and output.

combustion noise calculation

This is a function that displays and outputs the noise level generated by the engine. The combustion noise level (CNL) is calculated based on the in-cylinder pressure.

Function
combustion analysis

By inputting crank angle pulses (1 P/R, 360 P/R) into the DS-0378 pulse unit and cylinder pressure into the DS-0380 high-speed A/D unit, it is possible to perform combustion calculations based on angle sampling from the cylinder pressure.

External trigger input

By inputting a voltage signal to start and stop the recording of ExAngle in the DS-0378 pulse unit, simultaneous recording with other measuring instruments is achieved.

Status out

The DS-0378 Pulse Unit outputs 0-5 V in accordance with the recording timing of ExAngle. This allows other measuring instruments to be notified when the recording of ExAngle starts.

low speed analog input

The DS-0381 16Ch low-speed A/D unit can measure analog data for each cycle. The measured values can also be used as parameters for combustion calculations.

Analog Output

The DS-0382 16Ch DA unit outputs the results calculated by ExAngle as voltage values for each cycle.

  • Example of system configuration
Measurement is possible even without installing the crank angle sensor.

The control signal of the missing tooth within the automotive ECU can be used as a rotational signal and can be sampled. This is a convenient feature when it is difficult to install a crank angle sensor or for measurements on actual vehicles.

EX-0436 DS combustion link function

This is the function to remotely control ExAngle from your bench system using Windows socket communication features.
It enables the automation of steady-state testing.

  • Data communication over a LAN connection (TCP/IP sockets)

  • By issuing a recording start command from the bench system, it is possible to simultaneously record performance data and combustion analysis data.

  • It is possible to save ExAngle data files (*.CBDX) and text files (*.CSV) with the same name as the performance data.

  • It is possible to reflect performance data (such as atmospheric pressure and fuel flow rate) into parameter values for combustion calculations.

  • img-ex-angle-09

Note 1: FAMS-R6 requires the installation of the IS-0207 DS link function option.
Note 2: Cannot be connected to FAMS-8000.

EX-0483 CAN Function

This is a feature that enables CAN communication. It is less susceptible to external noise and reduces wiring complications by significantly decreasing the number of signal lines.

CAN Input: Results can be recorded for each cycle. By setting parameters such as atmospheric pressure and fuel flow rate, they can be reflected as specification values.
CAN Output: Results for each cycle calculated by ExAngle (such as Pmax, NMEP, etc.) can be output.
*Supported hardware: VN1610 (manufactured by Vector)

EX-0439 Knock Expert Function

The phenomenon of engine knocking is detected from engine sounds measured by a microphone. The knocking calculations are processed in real-time without missing any cycles. The results of the knocking calculations can be displayed on a calculation monitor, trend display, etc., and can also be output through the DS-0382 16Ch D/A unit or via CAN.

  • Example of system configuration

From the time-series data of the microphone, it is possible to extract data according to the processing angle range of each cylinder, allowing a single microphone to perform knocking calculations for up to four cylinders simultaneously. It is not necessary to install pressure sensors in all four cylinders.
