Servo Analyzer Frequency Response Measurement Software
OS-4100

PC-based frequency response analyzer
enables anyone to measure frequency response functions quickly and with high resolution.

The frequency response measurement software is a dedicated software that can measure the frequency characteristics of various objects such as the vibration characteristics of mechanical structures, the acoustic characteristics of speakers, motor control characteristics, servo analysis, coupling response characteristics, and battery impedance characteristics.
It can be used as a servo analyzer and frequency characteristic analyzer, allowing anyone to easily and quickly obtain high-resolution frequency characteristics.

Product Overview

Software

The OS-4100 frequency response measurement software is the successor to the conventional models (DS-0242 / DS-0342) for servo analysis. It incorporates all the functions of the previous models and additionally features new convenient functions such as external control and step response capabilities.

  • Software

hardware

The DS-5000 is a compact hardware that has improved dynamic range and full channel isolation (insulation) compared to the conventional model DS-3000, making it more resistant to noise. The dynamic range has been enhanced from 110 dB to 130 dB, and the maximum number of measurement channels has increased from 32 channels to 42 channels.

System Configurations

The frequency response measurement software is a system that uses the DS-5000 series (FFT analyzer) hardware and a PC.
By using the signal output function of the DS-5000 series (FFT analyzer), a signal is input to the object, and the input signal and output signal (response) are measured to obtain the frequency response function.

Case Studies

Case 1: Measurement of Rotational Torque Control Characteristics of a Small Motor

Motors and drivers incorporated into various products such as robots, conveyor systems, semiconductor manufacturing machines, and automobiles have control circuits built in to manage their rotational speed and torque. To evaluate these control characteristics, gain margin and phase margin are determined. The OS-4100 can automatically calculate gain margin and phase margin from the frequency response function (open-loop transfer function). It can also measure the closed-loop transfer function and derive the open-loop transfer function (one-cycle transfer function). The DS-0545 2 ch signal output unit can add the feedback signal (signal from the object) and the measurement signal (signal generated internally by the DS) and return it to the input. This allows for direct signal injection into the control circuit, making it easy to evaluate the stability of the control circuit.
Additionally, the step response function can measure and automatically calculate the responsiveness in the time domain (such as delay time and overshoot value).

DS-0545 2-channel signal output unit (with addition function)

The DS-0545 2-channel signal output unit can output a signal that adds a measurement signal (generated internally by DS) to the feedback signal from the object.

Therefore, there is no need to prepare an additional amplifier, and by eliminating the cable wiring between amplifiers, the noise resistance is improved.

Case Study 2: Evaluation of Control Characteristics of Galvanometer Scanner and Measurement of Mirror Resonance Frequency

(Cooperation: Citizen Chiba Precision Co., Ltd.)

A galvanometer scanner (galvano mirror) is a motor used to adjust the scanning angle of mirrors that reflect laser light, equipped with high-precision position sensors. It is used in a wide range of applications in combination with laser markers, microscopes, LiDAR, and more. Depending on the application, it is required to scan (scan) the mirror at high speed and with high precision over a wide range. Therefore, during product development, it is necessary to conduct accurate simulations to achieve high speed, and optimization of models and control parameters is also required.
Additionally, to ensure that customers can use the product with confidence, it is necessary to confirm that the product's performance is guaranteed before shipment.
To achieve this, evaluating the control characteristics of the galvanometer scanner and accurately and easily measuring and understanding the resonance frequency of the mirror was a challenge.

Case 3. Evaluation of vibration characteristics using an exciter.

When a structure is subjected to vibrations, resonance occurs when the vibration frequency matches the structure's natural frequency, leading to very large vibrations that can cause failure or destruction. Therefore, it becomes important to evaluate the vibration characteristics of the structure (object). The OS-4100 can measure vibration characteristics using an exciter with up to 42 channels simultaneously.
Additionally, it can convert acceleration to displacement using calculus functions and control the amplitude value of the excitation using amplitude control functions. Furthermore, it can measure characteristics after subtracting the weight of the jig using a function that performs arithmetic operations on two data sets (Item inter-operation function) (mass cancel).

Function Introduction: Amplitude Control Function

The vibrator's amplitude can be controlled. The measured amplitude can automatically change the output signal (DS-5000) to match the preset amplitude. The vibrator can be controlled to maintain a constant amplitude on ch1. It is possible to measure the vibration characteristics without being affected by the jig's vibration characteristics.
Additionally, it can be controlled using an acceleration sensor based on the amplitude of displacement.

Case Study 4. Measurement of Alternating Current Impedance for Batteries (Secondary Batteries / Fuel Cell Single Cells)

One method to evaluate batteries is the alternating current impedance method. This method is one of the means to assess the impedance (such as electrode degradation) characteristics without destroying or disassembling the battery. By applying an alternating current load to the battery and measuring the voltage and current, the alternating current impedance can be measured. Using the FRA method allows for high-precision measurements over a wide dynamic range. Additionally, it can display a Cole-Cole plot, which is useful for estimating the causes of battery degradation. To facilitate the transfer of measurement results to simulation software, versatile file formats such as uff and HDF5 are adopted.
* An electronic load device and current probe are required for this measurement.

Function Introduction Frequency Division Settings

Function Introduction Frequency Division Settings

Settings can be changed for each frequency being measured. This allows for a reduction in measurement time and the construction of optimal settings for each frequency. Important frequency bands can be measured with high frequency resolution, while bands with little variation can be measured more coarsely, leading to a reduction in measurement time. Furthermore, optimal measurements can be achieved by varying the amplitude of signal output for each frequency band, improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

Case 5. Evaluation of Speaker Acoustic Characteristics (Frequency Characteristics)

One of the elements that determine the performance of a speaker is its frequency characteristics. The OS-4100 can connect the signal output of the DS-5000 to the speaker's amplifier and capture the generated sound with a sound level meter or microphone to measure the speaker's frequency characteristics. It also features an automatic cutoff frequency detection function (cutoff search function). Furthermore, it is equipped with two types of calculation methods, allowing for high-precision data acquisition for each frequency using the FRA method, as well as the ability to instantly obtain the characteristics of the entire frequency range using the FFT method.
