Cloud-based emotional evaluation application
WEB-SOUNDONE

"Sound One" is a web application that allows you to record sound, edit sound, manage data, perform audio testing, and link subjective and physical quantities.

Auditory evaluation experiments (perceptual sound tests) are used to score human perceptions of sounds in product sound design and abnormal sound detection. "Audio Test" is a simple auditory test that anyone can easily use.

By streaming the sound you want to evaluate on the web, you can gather impressions from a wide range of listeners.
The collected sound impressions can be correlated with parameters such as sound pressure levels, allowing for a link between perception and physics.
Audio recording can be done using a smartphone or similar device, and the entire process—from recording and editing to audio testing, saving results, and analysis—can be accessed through your device's web browser, regardless of your operating system.

Features

You can record audio using your smartphone or other device and upload it to the cloud immediately.

We have released an iPhone app specializing in sound recording (recorder) functionality.
This resolves the following issues with the "Recorder" function of the web application.

  • Unable to recognize externally connected microphone.

  • Unstable behavior

  • If the network connection is interrupted, the recorded data will be lost.

*We will continue to provide the web application as well.

  • Sound Recording No. 1
  • Sound recording No. 2

Sound editing

You can extract sounds to use for audio testing and adjust the tone using a graphic equalizer.

  • Sound editing

Manage data

The waveforms and color maps of uploaded and edited audio are automatically displayed, allowing you to manage them while checking the information.

  • Manage data

Audio Test

This is a simple, easy-to-answer questionnaire-style test that allows you to have people you know listen to sounds and gather their impressions on a 5-point scale.

Application/Example/Composition

Measurement, impression evaluation, and physical analysis of hair dryer noise.

Hair dryers have various characteristics depending on the product. To reduce unwanted noises during product development and to utilize this information for future sound design, we conducted sound measurement, impression evaluation, and object recognition analysis.

Audio Test

You can view the correlation between audio test results and physical parameters on the Sound One page.

The following was discovered from the correlation with physical parameters in Sound One.

  1. The "loud-quiet" frequency range has a high correlation with the A-weighted sound pressure level around the 3.15kHz band.
High sound pressure in this frequency range resulted in the perception of it being "noisy."

  2. The "sharp-dull" sensation correlated strongly with higher frequencies above 5kHz.

physical analysis

We will perform a detailed analysis of the physical parameters using O-solution's analysis function.

By using O-Solution in addition to Sound One, you can do even more!

  • You can visualize multiple graphs simultaneously!

  • You can freely arrange and overlay multiple graphs!

  • You can analyze and visualize various physical analysis indicators!

1/3 Octave Analysis

The graph below shows the 1/3 octave analysis performed with O-Solution. The analysis results for four samples are displayed side by side, allowing you to grasp and compare the acoustic characteristics at a glance. You can see that the area around 3.15kHz (circled in the graph, which has a high correlation with "loud-quiet") is not a frequency band with particularly high sound pressure levels for any of the sample sounds.
Furthermore, the graph shows that the frequency band above 5kHz (highly correlated with "sharp-dull"), enclosed by a square (□), is not a frequency band with exceptionally high sound pressure levels compared to other frequency bands in any of the sample sounds.

  • By visualizing and arranging multiple graphs simultaneously in this way, you can grasp the overall trends that might be difficult to understand using Sound One alone.
By visualizing and arranging multiple graphs simultaneously in this way, you can grasp the overall trends that might be difficult to understand using Sound One alone.

According to the AudioTest results, the order of sounds perceived as loud is No.2 > No.1. The superimposed graph of the 1/3 octave analysis, analyzed by O-Solution, shows that while the sound pressure level of audio sources No.1 > No.2, around the 3.15kHz band, No.1 < No.2. The graph also shows that the highest sound pressure level isn't necessarily the one perceived as the loudest.

  • This time, we've overlaid the graphs for only dryers No. 1 and No. 2. As you can see, you can freely arrange and overlay multiple graphs!

Sound Quality Evaluation and Analysis

O-Solution allows for the analysis of physical metrics that cannot be confirmed with Sound One. For example, the graph of the analysis results for roughness (sound harshness) is shown below. The sound roughness component in the critical band of 800Hz matches the order in which people perceive noise as loud in the AudioTest results, allowing us to consider a new possibility that sound roughness in this frequency band may be influencing the perception of loudness.
