OS-0522 Notice regarding malfunction of frequency differential and integral function of bundled octaves in FFT analysis

Thank you for your continued patronage of our products.

We have discovered a defect in the "OS-0522 FFT analysis function," an optional software for our Sound and Vibration Analysis System, O-Solution. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.
Furthermore, we would like to report the cause of this incident, the measures taken, measures to prevent recurrence, and our response to the customer as follows.

Target Products

Product name Sound and Vibration Analysis System O-Solution "OS-0522 FFT analysis function" (software option)
version Version 4.5.2 and later (versions prior to 4.0.6 are not affected)

Details of the problem

In the graph window, repeating frequency differential and integral calculations using the following procedure will display incorrect results in the graph window. A similar problem also occurred in the tripartite graph function, which utilizes frequency differential and integral processing.

[Steps to Troubleshooting]

  1. Register the FFT analysis results in the graph window, and then perform the following settings in the graph window.
    - Prioritize displaying average data checkbox: Set to ON
    • Data type: Set to 1/1 bundle octave or 1/3 bundle octave.
  2. Frequency calculus: Choose one of the following: first derivative, second derivative, single integral, or double integral.
  3. Frequency calculus: Set to OFF

When performing the above steps, the result of the frequency calculus: OFF procedure should ideally be displayed in step ③, but the frequency calculus processing result displayed in step ② remains displayed on the graph.
Therefore, if you set frequency calculus again in step 3 or later, the frequency calculus process will be performed again on the incorrectly displayed frequency calculus result, resulting in an incorrect graph being displayed afterward.

This bug caused a similar problem to occur in the tripartite graph function, which uses the same frequency differential and integral calculus processing internally.

Furthermore, when the incorrect data displayed on the graph after repeated frequency calculus processing was saved in CSV format, the output CSV file also contained incorrect results.
* Measurement data (DATX file) will be saved correctly.

① Register the FFT analysis results in the graph window and set them as follows in the graph window.

  • Prioritize average data display: ON
  • Data type: 1/1 bundle octave
  • Problem Description_No.1

② Set frequency calculus to single integral.

  • Bug Description_No.2

③ Set frequency calculus to OFF.

  • Bug Description_No.3
  • Bug Description_No.4

cause

In Ver. 4.5, a new frequency differential calculus process was added to the calculation section for the new calculation function between analysis result items. However, this also resulted in a change to the existing frequency differential calculus process, causing a bug. Furthermore, the same frequency differential calculus process is used when plotting the tripartite graph, which also caused a bug.
