Polarity of Accelerometer output voltage

In a single-axis Accelerometer, when the sensor's mounting surface is facing downwards, a positive voltage (or positive charge for charge output types) is produced when the sensor receives upward acceleration, and an output with the opposite sign is produced when it receives downward acceleration.

For example, if Accelerometer is attached to the top surface of a horizontally placed board and the board is struck upwards from below, an upward acceleration is applied to the board first, so the sensor will initially output a positive voltage (or positive charge in the case of a charge output type).

In addition, the polarity of 3-axis Accelerometer is clearly indicated by an arrow on the pickup body.

<Please note>

Some charge amplifiers reverse the polarity (shift it by 180 degrees) on the amplifier side. To correctly check the polarity, lightly tap Accelerometer with your fingertip and check the output polarity.
