Torque Meter Frequently Asked Questions
Question number FAQ-1294
How to set the TS series torque meter to display in kgfm units instead of Nm units.
To change the display units of a TS series torque meter, follow these steps. Please refer to the respective instruction manuals for specific details.
1. Introduction
Due to the revision of the Measurement Law, the unit system has changed from kgfm to Nm. Therefore, it is no longer possible to sell products using the kgfm unit system, and to address this, we have modified the specifications as follows. (Fully implemented from October 1999)
(1) TS-3600/3100 Series Display Unit
The kgfm unit system has been removed, leaving only the Nm unit system. To distinguish it from previous models, compatible models will have a "B" added to their model number. There are no other functional changes.
Supported models
TS-3600B、TS-3100B
(2) Detector
The detector's nameplate has been changed from the kgfm unit system to the Nm unit system.
(Example) Rated torque → Rated torque value in Nm units
Factor → Factor value corresponding to the Nm unit system
2. How to set the display to use the kgfm unit system.
If you wish to display the data in kgfm units, you can do so by following these steps. Please use the following calculation form for unit conversion.
Factor calculation formula
Enter the detector's Factor value (a 4-digit number) in half-width numerals into the following text box, and then press the Original Unit button.
The converted Factor will be displayed below.
The calculation of Factor is as follows:
N·m unit system, Factor = A
kgf·m unit system, Factor = B,
The calculations are performed using A = B × 0.9807 and B = A ÷ 0.9807.
* Entering full-width numbers will display "NaN".
(1) In the case of the new detector + TS-3600B/3100B
① Set the formula to (Factor in Nm units) ÷ 0.9807 = (Factor in kgfm units).
(Example) (Factor in Nm units) = 8086 → 8245 (Factor in kgfm units)
② Set the Capacity from the Nm unit system to the kgfm unit system for the detector capacity.
(Example 1) To change the rating from 200 Nm to 20 kgfm, set it from 200 to 20.
(Example 2) To change the rating from 5 Nm to 50 kgfcm, set 5 to 50.
③ Change the UNIT (unit) display from "Nm" to the "−" symbol.
④ Perform ZERO adjustment
(2) New detector + incompatible TS (TS-3100, 3100A, 3600, 3600A, 800, 800B)
The procedure is the same as in (1), but you can change the unit in ③ from "Nm" to "kgfm".
(3) In the case of the old detector + TS-3600B/3100B
The procedure is the same as in (1), but in step ①, the old detector's nameplate displays the Factor in kgfm units, so set this value as is.
(4) New detector + TS-2100/TS-2600
① (Factor in Nm units) ÷ 0.9807 = (Factor in kgfm units) Set the (Factor in kgfm units).
② Set RANGE to the value on the nameplate. (The value of RANGE is the same regardless of whether you use the Nm or kgfm unit system.)
③ Shift the decimal point position by one digit. (TS-2100 does not display this.)
(Example 1) To change the rating from 200 Nm to 20 kgfm, set it from 200.0 to 20.00.
(Example 2) To change the rating from 5 Nm to 50 kgfcm, set it from 5.000 to 50.00.
④ Prepare a sticker with "kgfm" or similar and attach it to an appropriate place on the display.
⑤ Perform ZERO adjustment.
(5) In the case of the old detector + TS-2100/2600
The procedure is similar to (4), but in (1), the old detector's nameplate displays the Factor in kgfm units, so set this value as is.
