Wiring work and noise

When noise is superimposed on the torque signal, for example;

  • The display shows significant fluctuations even when there is no load.
  • Despite a constant rotation speed and constant load torque, the torque display and analog output voltage fluctuate significantly.
  • When the power to the drive motor and load device is turned off, the display stabilizes at zero, but when the power is turned on, the fluctuations become larger.

These symptoms may manifest as noise. It is necessary to take preventative measures against such noise during installation and wiring. The following is an excerpt from the "Precautions for Torque Meter Wiring Installation" section of the TS-3200 display unit instruction manual. Please refer to it.

In recent years, there has been an increase in test equipment that uses or measures inverter motors. Due to their operating principle, inverters generate noise, which can affect adjacent equipment, and torque meters are no exception. The degree of impact is not uniform and depends on factors such as the amount of noise generated by the inverter, the condition of the signal lines, the installation conditions, and the distance of the equipment from the inverter. However, problems caused by inverter noise can be reduced by referring to the following precautions regarding wiring work in advance. We also ask that you refer to the following when performing construction work even in cases other than inverter noise.

  • Please implement measures to mitigate radiated noise on the inverter unit side.
  • Separate the main circuit input/output wires of the inverter from the power and signal wires of the torque meter.
    The separation distance should be at least 300 mm. If separation is difficult, the power and signal wires of the torque meter should be routed through a metal conduit, and one end of the metal part should be grounded.
  • Always use the cable (dedicated cable) provided with the detector for the torque signal line.
  • The mounting frame for the torque sensor will be grounded.
  • For TS series indicators, if the power plug is 3-prong, always use both pins on the power cable.
    Always connect the ground terminal to the earth. In the case of 2P, on the back of the TS series display unit
    The case is grounded using the case's ground terminal.
  • The power supply for the TS series display unit should be on a separate circuit from the inverter power supply. If this is not possible, a noise-canceling transformer should be installed.
  • Implement noise reduction measures as instructed by the inverter manufacturer.
