It has an EL backlight. Instead of continuous illumination, the illumination time is set in the menu (maximum 30 seconds).

The backlight illuminates for a set time (10s/20s/30s) when the panel switch [LIGHT] is pressed, and then automatically turns off. If the panel switch is operated while the backlight is on, it will illuminate for the set time from that point onward. Note that immediately after powering on, the backlight is always off, regardless of whether the panel condition memory function is enabled or disabled.
