Sound level meter - Frequently Asked Questions

There are two types of sound pressure levels: the flat-weighted sound pressure level (_LP) which is not weighted by frequency, and the C-weighted sound pressure level (_LC) which is weighted by frequency-weighted characteristics. Similar to noise levels, sound pressure levels also have two measurement modes: instantaneous value and maximum value per second.

 

1. Procedure for measuring sound pressure level (_LP)

Please measure the sound pressure level (_LP) using the following procedure. For basic instructions on setting the measurement conditions, please refer to the section on setting the measurement conditions.

 

◆Operation

1. Set the measurement conditions of this device to sound pressure level measurement.
   Display screen: Standard screen (Panel switch [LIST])
   Frequency Correction: FLAT (Displayed as P) (Panel switch [A / C / FLAT])
   Dynamic characteristics: FAST or SLOW (Panel switch [F/S/IMP])
2. Set the measurement data display to sound pressure level (_LP) measurement.
   Press the panel switch [_LP / _Leq...] to display the sound pressure level (_LP).
3. Set the measurement mode.
   Press the panel switch [2nd] to switch the panel switch to function 2.
   Next, press the panel switch [Tact Max] to set either instantaneous mode (INST) or maximum value per second display mode (TMAX1).
4. Read the measured value from the digital display.

   

 

2. Measurement procedure for C-weighted sound pressure level (_LC)

The C-weighted sound pressure level (_LC) should be measured using the following procedure. For basic instructions on setting the measurement conditions, please refer to the section on setting the measurement conditions.

 

◆Operation

1. Set the measurement conditions of this device to sound pressure level measurement.
   Display screen: Standard screen (Panel switch [LIST])
   Frequency Shifting: C (Panel switch [A / C / FLAT])
   Dynamic characteristics: FAST or SLOW (Panel switch [F/S/IMP])
2. Set the measurement data display to sound pressure level (_LC) measurement.
   Press the panel switch [L _P / L _eq...] to display the sound pressure level (_LC).
3. Set the measurement mode.
   Press the panel switch [2nd] to switch the panel switch to function 2.
   Next, press the panel switch [Tact Max] to set either instantaneous mode (INST) or maximum value per second display mode (TMAX1).
4. Read the measured value from the digital display.
