Sound level meter - Frequently Asked Questions
Question number FAQ-1190
Windscreen, tripod, microphone extension cable, all-weather windscreen
1. Assembly of measuring aids
To assist with measurements, accessories such as a windscreen, a tripod (sold separately), a microphone extension cable (5m to 100m, AG-2000 series or 3300/3400 series), and an all-weather windscreen (LA-0207) are available.
Please use or purchase according to your intended use and purpose.
2. How to remove and install the preamplifier
To tighten the preamplifier, turn the preamplifier fixing screws clockwise when viewed from the front, and turn them counterclockwise to loosen them. When removing or installing the preamplifier, align it with the connector on the main unit and remove or install it slowly and gently.

<Memo>
Always turn off the power before installing or removing the preamplifier. The preamplifier is a precision instrument containing a condenser microphone. Handle it with extreme care. In particular, be careful not to drop or otherwise impact the removed preamplifier.
3. How to use the windbreak screen
To reduce measurement errors caused by strong winds, a windscreen is included as an accessory. Please use it when measuring with a ventilation fan where strong winds directly hit the microphone, or when taking measurements outdoors. With the sound level meter powered off, slowly and gently insert the microphone into the windscreen's hole until the tip of the microphone touches it.
For continuous measurements taken outdoors over extended periods, please purchase the separately sold all-weather windproof screen.
<Memo>
When attaching or detaching the windscreen, please be careful not to shock the microphone.

4. How to use a tripod and extension cable
When attaching the sound level meter unit directly to a tripod, use the tripod mounting screw located on the back of the unit.
The screw on the bottom of the sound level meter is a camera tripod screw. It is a 1/4" nominal size screw compliant with JIS B7103.
(The sound level meter side has a female thread.)

If you need to further reduce the analytical effects of the sound level meter itself or the acoustic effects from the person taking the measurement, we recommend using the separately sold tripod and microphone extension cable (AG-2000 series or AG-3301~3305, AG-3401~3405). By using the tripod and extension cable, you can set up the microphone and preamplifier away from the sound level meter itself, preventing external influences that can cause errors during precise measurements. Please assemble and use the tripod and extension cable as follows.
<Note>
The microphone holder is included with the extension cable.
◆Operation
- Turn off the power to the sound level meter.
- Attach the microphone holder to the tripod.
- Remove the preamplifier from the sound level meter.
- Connect the sound level meter unit and the preamplifier using an extension cable.
- Attach the preamplifier to the microphone holder on the tripod.
<Memo>
Please be very careful not to tip over the tripod when taking measurements.

5. How to use the all-weather windproof screen
For outdoor measurements in adverse weather conditions such as snow or rain, we recommend using the separately sold all-weather windproof screen (LA-0207). (With the LA-0207 attached, it conforms to JIS C 1509-1:2005 and IEC 61672-1:2002.)
Please assemble and use the all-weather windbreak screen following these steps. Please also purchase an extension cable (AG-2000/3300/3400 series) separately when using the all-weather windbreak screen.
◆Operation
- Turn off the power to the sound level meter.
- Attach the microphone holder to the support column.
- Remove the preamplifier from the sound level meter.
- Connect the sound level meter unit and the preamplifier using an extension cable.
- After attaching the sleeve portion of the all-weather windproof screen to the preamplifier, attach the screen to the sleeve portion on which the preamplifier is mounted.
- Attach the screen to the microphone holder mounted on the support pole.
<Memo>
When using the all-weather windproof screen, please refer to the instruction manual for the all-weather windproof screen in addition to this diagram.

Note: Consumable parts (windscreen, waterproof mesh) will need to be replaced periodically.
