Sound level meter - Frequently Asked Questions

Sound level meters are designated as specified measuring instruments, and when using sound level values for trade or certification purposes, measurements must be taken using sound level meters that have passed calibration and are within their validity period. To simplify the calibration process, a type approval system has been established within this calibration system.

 

This system involves conducting rigorous pre-tests on essential aspects of specific types of sound level meters. Models that pass these tests are given a type approval number, and the pass/fail status is determined by a simpler test, primarily focusing on instrument error.

Our LA series sound level meters have received type approval and are therefore eligible for this certification.

Sound level meters are calibrated by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA), and sound level meters that pass the calibration are affixed with a certificate of conformity (calibration stamp) that indicates an expiration date of 5 years (revised to 5 years from April 1998).

 

Furthermore, the Measurement Law includes a designated manufacturer system that allows manufacturers with excellent quality control capabilities to conduct self-inspections of their manufactured specified measuring instruments based on the standards of the Verification and Inspection Regulations and affix a "certificate of conformity" to them at the time of shipment of new products. This "certificate of conformity" can be used in place of verification.

Since our company has obtained this designation, we can perform the inspection on behalf of our customers and affix a certificate of conformity (certificate of compliance stamp) to new products.

Thus, if you purchase a specified measuring instrument bearing a conformity mark, you can use it for transactions or certification without undergoing an initial verification.

However, when the validity period expires, re-verification must be applied for through the verification body (JQA) as stipulated by the Measurement Law. (After receiving, inspecting, and adjusting the product at our company, we will have it verified by JQA.)
