What precautions should be taken when installing multiple MP-9810/MP-9830 units? (Question supplement) Four MP-9810/MP-9830 units were installed in a row on one gear. The fixing jig is made of SUS400 series stainless steel. The two outer units work even with a gap of 1 mm or more from the gear, but the two inner units do not work with a 1 mm gap, and only work with a 0.8 mm gap. Why?

Since SUS400 series is a magnetic material, please change the fixing jig to a non-magnetic material.


The MP-9810/MP-9830 has a magnet in its tip. A magnetic circuit is formed between the MP and the peaks and valleys of the gear, and changes in that magnetic field are detected.
Therefore, if magnetic materials are used for mounting, the magnetism between the gears tends to weaken, resulting in reduced sensitivity.
When using multiple units, adjustments such as narrowing the gap may be necessary due to the magnetic influence between the MPs.
Please refer to the instruction manual for further details. The following are important usage precautions.

  • The detection gear is made of ferromagnetic material and has a tooth width of 3 mm or more within modules 1 to 3.
  • The MP-9810/MP-9830 mounting fixtures are made of non-magnetic material and are secured to prevent movement due to vibration, etc.
  • Mount it opposite the gear so that it aligns with the alignment mark on the MP.
  • When installing multiple MPs, leave a spacing of 35 mm or more between them.

In alternating strong magnetic fields (environments with magnetic field fluctuations), magnetic circuits tend to become unstable, and this can affect detection, sometimes resulting in a failure to detect certain elements.
(For large AC motors, please consider installing them in a location less susceptible to magnetic field effects.)
It is not suitable for precise position detection.
(When detecting protrusions, there is variability in the relationship between the protrusion position and the signal.)
