Frequently Asked Questions about Magneto-Electric Rotation Detector

Question number FAQ-0847

The relationship between the shape of the detection gear and the output signal waveform is

<MP-981 Features and General Specifications>

(1) Detected from very close to 0 r/min
(2) Small, lightweight, and easy to install
(3) Output as a square wave from very low speed to high speed (1 Hz to 20 kHz)
(Maximum 20,000 r/min with a 60 P/R gear)
Square wave Lo: 0.5 V or less, Hi: 5±0.5 V
(4) Output impedance: Collector output 300 ohms
(5) Detection gear: Ferromagnetic material (tooth width 3 mm or more, module 0.5 to 3)
(6) Operating temperature range -10 to +70 °C

<Shape of the detection gear>

For the detection gear, we recommend using the same ferromagnetic, involute gear as in the MP-900 series.
The MP-001 type detection gear is available as an option.
If you are manufacturing gears, please refer to the "Recommended Gears" section.

The figure below shows the output waveform for the tooth profile.
(B) and (C) may output two pulses for a single tooth.

<Measures to address special gears>

Please machine the end face (edge) of the gear so that it is smooth.

<Installation Instructions>

Please avoid mounting the devices as shown in the diagram below, as this can cause magnetic interference between them.
In case (A), gears of different modules are mounted in close proximity.
In case (B), two or more MP-981s are mounted close together to a single gear.
(Please install them at least 35 mm apart.)
