Question number FAQ-0779

What is signal power?

In the section on RMS values, the value obtained before taking the square root in equation (1) (or equation (2)) is called the mean square of the signal. That is, if x (t) is a periodic signal:

(1)
Also, if x (t) is a non-periodic signal;
(2)

This can be expressed as the mean square of the signal. x (t)of Power It is called a signal. Also, the quantity obtained by omitting the averaging operation in equations (1) and (2) is the signal. x (t)of Energy It is called a signal. x (t The power of the signal x (t It can also be said that this is the time-averaged value of the energy.

If the physical unit of signal x (t) is EU, then the units of power and energy are EU² and EU²s, respectively.
Here, the power and energy of the signal x (t) are terms used in the field of signal processing and do not necessarily correspond to actual physical quantities.
