Application Example 2: Tracking Analysis
For rotating machines such as engines, turbines, and centrifugal separators, which must cover a wide range of rotational speeds from low to high speeds, the most troublesome problem is the resonance between the rotational speed and the natural frequencies of each component that makes up the rotating machine (parts such as the rotating shaft, cover, and bracket).
In this case, instead of measuring vibration and noise at a constant rotation speed, it is necessary to vary the rotation speed and analyze the relationship between rotation speed and vibration/noise levels. Tracking analysis graphs the vibration and noise level fluctuations caused by rotational fluctuations, providing important data for analyzing the resonant rotation speed (critical speed).
As shown in the figure below, the rotational speed/spectral diagram (a three-dimensional representation of the spectrum) is a chart that allows for an intuitive understanding of the change in frequency (order) of the spectrum in response to changes in rotational speed. In contrast, rotational speed/tracking analysis clearly shows, in a two-dimensional graph, which order of the rotational component is resonating at a specific rotational speed.
