(1) In frequency analysis, frequencies outside of the 15 bands required for 1/3 octave display are cut off, resulting in a smaller overall value for the 1/3 octave display.

(2) 1/3 octave bands have a broad band characteristic, unlike spectra. Therefore, the influence (leakage) from adjacent bands is taken into account, which increases the overall measurement.
