Capacitive Thickness Gauges and Displacement Gauges: Frequently Asked Questions
Question number FAQ-0159
Can the VE series gap detector measure composite materials? (In the case of conductors)
When measuring conductive materials, most can be measured, but materials with large surface irregularities will result in measurement errors.
| It can measure single materials without any problems. | ![]() |
| Even if multiple materials are glued together, If there is continuity between them, it can be measured. |
![]() |
| Even insulators that have a conductor covering their surface It can measure the total thickness. |
![]() |
| Even if there are voids inside, the surface is a conductor plane. If it is, you can measure the total thickness. |
![]() |
| If voids are present on the surface and the surface is uneven, measurement errors will occur due to the influence of the unevenness. If there are uneven surfaces, the measured value will be closer to the average distance including the unevenness, rather than the distance to the flat part, so caution is advised. |
