It is recommended that the VE series gap detector be installed as vertically as possible in relation to the measurement target.

When the VE series gap detector is tilted, measurement errors occur. With a tilt, the gap value is measured as smaller, while the thickness measurement is larger. This is because, when the VE sensor is tilted, the electric field lines emitted from the VE sensor do not reach the measurement sample directly, causing a change in the measurement area on the sample. The graph below shows an example of how errors manifest when the gap changes while the VE sensor remains tilted. Errors do not appear significantly when the gap is more than half of the measurement range, but they become pronounced when the gap is less than half. It is recommended that the sensor be installed as vertically as possible with respect to the measurement target.
