Capacitive Thickness Gauges and Displacement Gauges: Frequently Asked Questions

Question number FAQ-0142

How do capacitive thickness gauges and displacement gauges measure the thickness of an insulator?

The VE series gap detector calculates the gap from the capacitance value, assuming that there is air between the conductor and the detector. For measuring the thickness of an insulator, the thickness is calculated by measuring the change in capacitance caused by the presence of the insulator of the object being measured between the reference floor (conductor) and the sensor.

For detailed calculation formulas, please refer to "Please explain the principle of measuring the thickness of an insulator using the CL-5610 capacitive thickness gauge."
