How do capacitive thickness gauges and displacement gauges measure the displacement of conductors and semiconductors?
As shown in the diagram below, the sensor is placed opposite the object to be measured, and the gap is measured. At this time, the sensor case and the object to be measured must be electrically connected. This is because the capacitive sensor uses electric current to measure the gap. If the impedance (resistance to electrical flow) between the sensor case and the object to be measured is large, it will result in a measurement error. Generally, an impedance of 1 kΩ or less is within the specified range.
