Roller Encoder Frequently Asked Questions
Question number FAQ-0137
What is an open collector output (optional: RP-0703)?
In this output circuit using a transistor, the collector is the output terminal. When the transistor is ON, it is shorted to GND, so the output is 0V, and it will not work because there is no power supply. To avoid this situation, the collector terminal is usually pulled up externally. The system is configured so that the output is low level when the transistor is OFF.
