Regarding the definition of measuring force for linear gauges

Ono Sokki The definition of measuring force for linear gauge sensors is based on the JIS standard for dial gauges (JIS B7503).

JIS standards can be viewed as PDF files on the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee website. Click on "JIS Search" in the database search and follow the instructions on the page that opens.

The definition of measuring force according to JIS B7503 is as follows:

■Performance

  • The minimum measurable force is 0.4 N.
  • When the spindle is positioned vertically and downwards, the maximum measuring force shall not exceed 1.5 N for a scale division of 0.01 mm, and 2 N for scale divisions of 0.002 mm and 0.001 mm.
  • The difference between the maximum and minimum values of the measured force for the same direction of spindle motion must not exceed 0.7 N.
  • At any position within the measurement range, the difference in measuring force between when the spindle enters and exits shall not exceed 0.6 N for a scale division of 0.01 mm, and 0.9 N for scale divisions of 0.002 mm and 0.001 mm.

■Measurement method

The dial gauge is held with the spindle positioned vertically and downwards. The spindle is then moved continuously and gradually in both vertical and horizontal directions to measure the measuring force at the base point, center, and end point of the measurement range.
