Indication accuracy and resolution

■Indication accuracy

This refers to the measurement error inherent in a linear gauge sensor. The error (difference from the true value) is measured for each predetermined measurement, and the sum of the absolute values of the maximum positive error and the maximum negative error over the entire length of the spindle movement represents the indication accuracy of that gauge sensor.

Accuracy is measured by comparing it with a reference displacement gauge, and the error is defined as the difference between the reading of the measured sensor and the value of the reference displacement gauge when the least significant digit of the measured sensor changes. This is why the indication accuracy of a sensor with a resolution of 10 μm is 3 μm, which is less than the resolution.

■Resolution

This refers to the minimum reading value of a linear gauge sensor. For example, the GS-1730 linear gauge sensor has a minimum reading value of 10 μm.
