The instructions for attaching the CP-5720A crank pulse detector to the engine crank pulley specify using an M5 high-tensile bolt for securing the customer-provided adapter. Is it acceptable to use a regular bolt, and what specific high-tensile bolt number should be used?

Please be sure to use M5 bolts with a high-tensile strength rating of "10.9". High-tensile strength bolts can be purchased at your nearest screw supplier.


Generally, engine areas experience significant vibration, so high-tensile bolts made of SCM alloy are used to ensure secure fastening. While ordinary bolts have a tightening force of approximately 5.4 Nm, high-tensile bolts have a tightening force tens to hundreds of times greater. High-tensile bolts are also categorized by strength, but for mounting this detector/adapter, using an M5 bolt with a general strength rank of "10.9" provides sufficient fastening.
