Ono Sokki Co., Ltd. (President: Yuji Okoshi), a manufacturer and distributor of electronic measuring instruments, will collaborate with Kanagawa University Minato Mirai Extension Center to hold a lifelong learning workshop for elementary school students titled "Midsummer Sound Play: Let's Make My Own Microphone!" at Ono Sokki Yokohama Technical Center (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

In this course, you will learn about the mechanisms of sound and vibration in a fun way by building your own microphone. Through hands-on activities and experiments, you will experience the wonders of everyday phenomena and the joy of making things and measuring.
Background of participation
Amidst challenges such as a shortage of STEM talent and a growing disinterest in science among younger generations, our company is participating in this course with the desire to convey the appeal of "manufacturing" and the importance of "measurement," and to contribute to the development of human resources that will support Japanese manufacturing. This is our second year cooperating with Kanagawa University Minato Mirai Extension Center. Last year, we held a course with the theme "Let's play with measuring instruments! The fascinating world of 'sound' that will keep you up at night," which was well received by many participants. Moving forward, our company will continue to value collaboration with local communities and educational institutions, and strive to contribute to the development of the next generation and the local community by providing learning opportunities that utilize "measurement technology."

Program Contents
Using everyday materials such as plastic cups and magnets, participants will create their own "microphone." Through recording and measuring their own voice using their homemade microphone, they will learn about how sound travels and how it works in a fun and engaging way.
