It also contributes to the development of next-generation fuels such as hydrogen fuel and xEVs (electric vehicles).

Angle axis signal measurement software "ExAngle"

~Available from Wednesday, December 20, 2023~

Ono Sokki Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kohoku-ku, Yokohama City, President: Yuji Okoshi), a manufacturer and distributor of electronic measuring instruments, will begin selling "Angle Axis Signal Measurement Software ExAngle"*, which enables combustion analysis of internal combustion engines, on Wednesday, December 20th.

Since the release of our "Combustion Analysis System CF-750" in 1976, we have consistently led the way in the research and development of combustion analysis in internal combustion engines. This new "ExAngle" is the successor to the "Combustion Analysis System DS-3000 Series," released in 2012. Moving away from conventional "analysis systems specialized in combustion analysis," it does not require an in-cylinder pressure signal from the engine, but can measure and analyze various signals synchronized with changes in rotational angle.
This release only includes the combustion analysis application, but in the future, it will be possible to use it for measurement and analysis of not only internal combustion engines but also electrified powertrains such as EVs. Furthermore, the improved model in 2024 is planned to support hydrogen engines, which are currently attracting a lot of attention.
By launching this product, our company will contribute to the realization of a new mobility society and the achievement of carbon neutrality.

*Sold as a set with the ExAngle-exclusive DS-3000 series (hardware).

Two key points of the new product

  • The new "Non-Stop Measurement Mode" continuously monitors for abnormalities in the internal combustion engine.

  • With an intuitive GUI, it streamlines daily tasks from measurement and analysis to report generation and reporting.

Target Market

  • Development of engines for HEVs (passenger cars, trucks, agricultural machinery, etc.)

  • Development of engines and generators utilizing next-generation fuels such as carbon-neutral fuels, hydrogen, and ammonia.

Background of Development

While the automotive industry is moving towards electrification in order to realize a carbon-neutral society, there are also challenges that need to be addressed by accelerating the efficiency of internal combustion engines and adapting to new fuels.
The newly released angle axis signal measurement software "ExAngle" leverages the measurement and analysis know-how cultivated through the development of combustion analysis systems to provide highly accurate, versatile, and expandable "angle axis-based signal measurement and analysis" that can meet new demands such as improved thermal efficiency, new fuel development, and automation of test verification.
By accurately capturing and analyzing the phenomena occurring during one rotation of rotating bodies such as engines and motors through precise angle sampling, we contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.

Features

As the first release, we've launched a combustion analysis application. It allows for high-speed and accurate angle sampling of up to 28 channels of signals for real-time analysis, enabling a detailed understanding of phenomena within a single cycle.

  • Measurement unit configuration (8 channels for high-speed AD for combustion, 16 channels for low-speed AD, 16 channels for DA output, 2 channels for audio input (100kHz bandwidth))

The new "Non-Stop Measurement Mode" enables continuous combustion analysis even under test conditions that involve idling stop or switching between EV and EV driving modes in HEV vehicles. This allows for analysis including multiple engine starts and stops in a single test, improving test efficiency.

We plan to release features that will be useful for development, such as external integration and custom calculations. We will automate everything from real-time synchronized measurement and analysis for new fuels to report generation, improving work efficiency.

Product overview

  • Angle sampling resolution: 0.05 to 1.0°, Input rotation speed range: 10 to 25,000 r/min (varies depending on resolution)

  • Statistical processing of measurement data: Conventional combustion analysis calculation processing using various engine and fuel parameters.

  • Equipped with a Non-Stop measurement mode to eliminate the possibility of missing abnormal phenomena or missing data.

  • New features include a canvas function for easy document creation and a sticky note function useful for communicating instructions during experiments.

  • Automatic system measurement (OP) via communication (TCP/IP/CAN) commands / Customizable calculations (OP) that can be set arbitrarily.

  • In the future, we plan to release new features sequentially, including support for new fuels such as carbon-neutral fuels and e-fuels, which are prone to abnormal combustion (scheduled for 2024).
