角度軸信号計測ソフトウェア ExAngle

ExAngle, the new software for measuring angular axis signals, refreshes the concept of combustion analysis equipment that has been sold for many years. This time, we asked the planning and development staff, along with the sales team responsible for ExAngle, to share their thoughts on the significant shift in direction.

The decision to take down the sign for 'Dedicated' combustion analysis.

What kind of product is ExAngle?

Ikeda

This product is a system that, while being a successor to the previous combustion analysis equipment, can contribute to the measurement of various rotating bodies. Combustion analysis is a method for evaluating the performance of engines that have a mechanism generating power through the reciprocating motion of pistons, commonly known as reciprocating engines. Through combustion analysis, it is possible to understand the combustion state of the engine and lead to improvements. It is active in a wide range of fields, including automobiles, motorcycles, agricultural machinery, construction equipment, power generation equipment, and ships.

The concept has been refreshed from the previous dedicated device for combustion analysis.

Ikeda

That's right. The products we have sold so far were specialized combustion analysis equipment, but with this product, we have removed that label and created a versatile measurement device that targets all rotating bodies, not limited to engines. We have also reorganized and incorporated the combustion analysis functions that we have accumulated over many years, but they are just one of the product's features and are not specialized. By developing with this concept, we have expanded the scope of application to development sites outside of engines and to fundamental research areas such as the analysis of behaviors of objects rotating at high speeds.

What was the background behind the change in direction?

Uehara

At the time we were considering development, the Japanese government declared carbon neutrality by 2050, which brought significant changes to the world. The automotive industry was hit by a wave of electrification, and there began to be headwinds against combustion analysis, which primarily targets engines. However, on the other hand, there were many challenges that needed to be addressed to achieve electrification, and there was also the belief that it would not be easy to move away from engines. Amidst this trend, we discussed again with the development team what was needed at the customer's development site and what we had to do.

Ikeda

As a result of our discussions, we concluded that while we must focus on electrification, we also need to continue developing engines for our customers. We want to create products that enable more efficient and easier combustion analysis. At the same time, we believe it would be beneficial to have products that can be effectively utilized in other systems, even if engines were to disappear in the future. Therefore, we made the decision to remove the main label of 'dedicated combustion analysis' to achieve this.

Angle Axis Signal Measurement Software ExAngle

Angle Axis Signal Measurement Software ExAngle

A newly revamped combustion analysis device that has been in use for over 40 years. While inheriting the analysis technology for combustion, it is a high-speed universal measuring instrument that enables measurement and analysis of all rotating bodies, not limited to internal combustion engines.

An existence that is like a tool that can be used intuitively.

How is the customer's reaction, including such a change in direction?

clear water

As I am primarily responsible for sales in the automotive industry, I have many customers who conduct combustion analysis, and the usability of the software has improved compared to before, receiving positive feedback from the customers I manage. With the settings now easier to configure, it should help prevent common setup errors that occur during measurements. Additionally, by adding illustrations to the setup screen, the hassle of checking item definitions in the manual has been eliminated. Although this product is no longer a dedicated device, I believe it has become easier to handle for customers who are tackling combustion analysis for the first time compared to its predecessor. Personally, while I am a sales representative responsible for selling combustion analysis, I still struggle daily to acquire product knowledge, but the introduction of this product has significantly lowered the barriers to combustion analysis.

Ikeda

I am glad to hear that. Software often tends to be difficult to operate due to its many functions and layers, but we are committed to making this product an intuitive 'tool' that can be used naturally without conscious effort. We have put a lot of thought into this aspect without compromise, so it is rewarding for the development team to have their efforts recognized in terms of usability. I believe we have created a product that is easy to use even for beginners, while also maintaining a consistent design for seasoned users who are familiar with existing products.

As you mentioned earlier, it aligns with the concept of being 'more efficient and easier.'

Uehara

I was also able to use it without looking at the manual from the first time. I am pleased to have received compliments from customers who are using existing products. Recently, there has been a shift from the initial focus on electrification, but I am glad that we were able to release products that can help various customers even in this situation where power sources are diversifying.

Ikeda

I really think so. In the early stages of development, there were some negative opinions within the company regarding the development of features for the downsized engine, and I struggled to explain the intent and gain support. However, when I actually delivered the product to customers and received positive feedback, I felt that it was worth continuing the development without giving up.

Finally, could you tell us about your future prospects?

Uehara

By releasing this product, we have broadened our scope of activity, so first, I would like to introduce it to various customers and hope to solve as many of their problems and requests as possible. Furthermore, rather than being limited to the existing market, I want to consider how this product can contribute to any markets that are expected to grow in the future and connect that to our next steps.

clear water

One of the things that customers are looking for is ease of connectivity with other devices. While communication functions are already included, it is expected that the demand will continue to grow in the future, so I hope you will continue to focus on that while making improvements. Additionally, I personally want to utilize this product to deepen my knowledge and become a salesperson who can quickly pick up on market needs and provide feedback for development.

Ikeda

While there is a demand for further performance improvements in the current engine, it is often difficult for customers to secure large-scale investments and personnel due to the need to balance electrification. Therefore, I believe that there will be an increasing need for automation and unmanned operations in performance evaluation, testing, and subsequent analysis and report generation. Moving forward, I want to focus not only on enhancing the functions of this product but also on developing related products that can contribute to the challenges faced on-site. Furthermore, by advancing the development of this product with a team that includes young employees, we are nurturing ambitious young talent who are eager to pursue the next new features. I hope you will look forward to their future contributions.
