calibration method for a sound calibration meter using an acoustic calibrator

When using a noise meter to analyze noise frequency with the XN-8000 series, the Y-axis is calibration with the noise meter to set the noise meter dBspl. For example, at calibration, input a reference sound pressure of 124 dBspl from the acoustic calibration to the noise meter, and perform the noise meter's AC out signal using the XN8000 series' "calibration" dialog. At this time, the noise meter is in the "130 dB" range. Since the "130 dB" range is too large, if using the "80 dB" range, perform the calibration process as follows.

■ Operation Flow

  1. Open the "calibration" dialog
  2. Execute the "calibration by calibration → Reference Signal"
  3. In the "Channel: Signal Input" dialog box, set the measurement range of the sound level meter.

■ Operating Procedure

  1. Open the 1-channel FFT analyzer project. For instructions on creating the project, please refer to the "1-channel FFT Project Creation Procedure Manual".
  2. Insert a noise meter into the acoustic calibration and input the reference sound pressure "124dBspl".
  3. Click the [Config Board] button to open the "Config Board" dialog box. (See Figure 2 below)
  4. Click "ch1" in the "Channel Palette" to display the analysis configuration diagram on the config board. (See Figure 2 below)

  6. Click the [CAL] button to open the "calibration" dialog. (See Figure 3 below)

  7. Click [calibration with reference signal] in the "calibration" dialog to open the calibration window. The spectrum of reference sound pressure will be displayed in the window. (See Figure 3 below)

  8. Select and set each item within the "calibration" dialog as shown in Figure 2. (Arrow → in Figure 3)

  9. Click the [START] button in the "calibration" dialog. When the average time is finished, the "X:OAY:124.00" and "Sensitivity" sections automatically calculate and display the "Constant to convert to 124 dB display." (Figure 3, red circle)
  10. Click the [OK] button to finish calibration the process.
  11. Remove the acoustic calibration from the noise meter.
  12. Change the sound level meter's range to "80dB" (the range used for measurement).
  13. Click the [ch1] button to open the "Channel: Signal Input" dialog box. (See Figure 4 below)

  14. Open the "External Amplifier" page. (Figure 4)
  15. Set the related items as follows: (Figure 4)

With that, calibration is finished. You can now start the measurement.
If you change the noise meter range, operate from (11) to (15) again.
