Frequently Asked Questions about Measurement - Part 33: "How to Use the DS-3000 Series Record File Viewer"

This measurement column addresses frequently asked questions received by our customer support center and provides answers to those questions.

This time, we will introduce how to use the Record File Viewer in the DS-0320 software for the DS-3000 series real-time Sound and Vibration Analysis System, which is used to display record data for offline analysis, specify the analysis range, and export to text files, etc.

Figure 1 shows the screen of the DS-0320 real-time Sound and Vibration Analysis System software.

  1. File Menu
    To perform offline analysis of record data in ORF format or other formats recorded with this software, or to export record data to a text file or WAV file, open the record data from "Open Offline Analysis Data" in the File menu.
  2. Record File Viewer Launch Button: Pressing the "Record File Viewer Launch Button" on the Offline Analysis Control Toolbar will open the Record File Viewer screen.
  3. Move to the beginning (start) button
    To perform offline analysis again from the beginning of the record data, press the "Move to Beginning (Start)" button on the Offline Analysis Control Toolbar before starting the analysis.

Figure 2 shows the Record File Viewer screen.

  1. File Management
    Open the file management menu. To export record data to a text file, WAV file, etc., execute "File Export". To export only a portion of the record data, specify the analysis range using the procedure described later, and then execute "File Export".
  2. Data Area Layout
    Specify the number of tracks to display in the waveform display section.
  3. Input source specification
    Specify the channels to display on each track.
  4. Scale settings
    Set the display scale.
  5. Switch display records
    A single record file can contain the results of multiple recording sessions (records). If you press and hold the REC button on the DS-0320 and repeatedly press START/STOP, multiple records will be recorded in that file. You can specify which record to display using "Display Record Switching".
  6. Register the display range as the analysis range.
    The currently displayed range will be registered as the analysis range.
  7. Analysis range, start position, end position
    The currently selected analysis range is displayed. The numbers (hours, minutes, seconds) displayed in the text boxes can be edited directly. Start and Stop respectivelyimg-measurement-column-20200122-03Pressing this button sets the current cursor position as the start and end position.
  8. setting
    Open the settings menu. You can check the Record File Viewer version and access online help. You can also switch the language displayed in tooltips and other elements.
  9. Full Range Button, Zoom Out Button, Zoom In Button Pressing the Full Range Button displays the entire range of the currently selected record. Pressing the Zoom Out and Zoom In buttons zooms in and out of the displayed range.
  10. Overall waveform display section
    The time waveform of the entire range of the currently selected record is displayed.
  11. Scale display section
    The time scale (hours:minutes:seconds) and marks indicating the analysis range and cursor position are displayed.
  12. Waveform display section
    The time waveform of the channel specified in ③ will be displayed. Clicking a mouse button in the waveform display area will move the cursor to that position. Dragging from left to right in the waveform display area (press the mouse button, move the mouse to the right, and release) will zoom in on the dragged area. Dragging from right to left will zoom out.

Specify the analysis range.

There are several ways to specify the analysis range in Record File Viewer. If you want to export only a portion of the record data, specify the analysis range using these steps, and then execute "File Export" from the File Management menu (Figure 2 ①).

  1. If the start and end points of the analysis range are determined, enter the time (hours:minutes:seconds) directly into the text box labeled "Analysis Range" in Figure 2, section ⑦.
  2. To specify the entire record data as the analysis range, press the "Show All Range" button (⑨) in Figure 2, and then press the "Register Display Range as Analysis Range" button (⑥).
  3. To set the cursor position to the start and end positions of the analysis range, use the start and end positions shown in Figure 2 ⑦.img-measurement-column-20200122-03Click here.
