For detectors calibrated in the kgf·m unit system, recalibration will be performed in the SI unit system before return. Therefore, a new nameplate will be attached with values corresponding to SI units (N·m, kN·m, or mN·m). The test report will also be written in SI units.
About SI units
The Measurement Law was revised in 1992, establishing new units of measurement. A grace period was provided for the switch to these units, until September 30, 1999. Penalties are stipulated for both manufacturers and users of measuring instruments. Our company has also discontinued the use of the kgf・m unit system for torque meters and has now switched to the N・m unit system. When the rated torque of the torque detector is large, we use N・m or the prefix k (1000) to express it as kN・m, and when it is small, we use the prefix m (1/1000) to express it as mN・m. The unit of expression will match the rated torque and its unit listed in the catalog.
Regarding the handling of nameplates on torque detectors prior to the revision.
Regarding the handling of detectors displayed in kgf·m units, we will do as follows:
(1) When sending your equipment to our company for calibration inspection
If a customer entrusts us with calibration testing of a detector whose nameplate displays units in kgf·m, we will replace the nameplate with one in N·m. Previously, test reports were written in N ·m while the nameplate remained unchanged, but we will now replace the nameplate with one in N·m and attach a note regarding the nameplate change to the product.
(2) Regarding the items used by the customer
Please refer to the instructions at the URL below, "How to change the display of the TS series torque meter from kgf・m units to N・m units," and change the settings according to the instruction manual. Please note that you are responsible for changing the nameplate on the torque sensor.
