Student Formula Japan Championship 2025

From September 8 to 13, the 'Student Formula Japan Championship 2025' was held at Aichi Sky Expo in Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, organized by the Japan Society of Automotive Engineers. This event is a competition where students from universities both domestically and internationally present racing cars, competing in vehicle inspections, static evaluations, and dynamic tests. As in previous years, our company provided prizes for the 'Overall Excellence Award' and was responsible for the noise inspection within the vehicle inspection working group.

From September 9 to 14, 2024, we sponsored and followed the 'Student Formula Japan Competition 2024' held at Aichi Sky Expo (Aichi Prefectural International Exhibition Center). Although the venue switched to Ecopa (Ogasa Mountain Comprehensive Sports Park) in Shizuoka Prefecture, the operation proceeded smoothly. As in previous years, our company conducted noise inspections for the participating vehicles and sponsored the awards.

Report of the 2022 Conference

From September 6 to 10, the 'Student Formula Japan Championship 2022' was held at Ecopa (Ogasa Mountain Comprehensive Sports Park) in Shizuoka Prefecture, organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers Japan.

The 'Student Formula' is an event where teams organized by students compete by designing and building a racing car within a year, focusing on the overall skills of manufacturing, including vehicle planning, design, and cost. It started in the United States in 1981 to provide students with opportunities in manufacturing and is now held in countries such as the UK, Australia, and Germany, growing into an international competition.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, only static reviews were conducted last year (the 18th event in 2020 was canceled), marking the effective resumption of the event after three years.

Report No. 2 of the 2022 Conference

This year marks the 20th occurrence of this event, and our company has been supporting it since the first one. As usual, we were in charge of the 'noise inspection' for vehicle inspections, but we faced occasional heavy rain from the first day. However, when the skies cleared, it became oppressively hot.

For vehicles equipped with reciprocating engines, the following regulations are established for noise inspection:
・Measure the close noise when the engine speed (idling & specified speed) declared in advance is reached
・Pass within the specified values (idling: 103dB(c), specified speed: 110dB(c))
・The sound level meter is installed at a 45-degree angle to the exhaust pipe outlet and 50 centimeters away (installed by the vehicle inspector)

Report No. 4 of the 2022 Conference

LA-7500 is used for noise examination.

The equipment used was the high-performance sound level meter "LA-7500." There were a few vehicles that could not pass the above conditions no matter how many times they tried. The students gradually began to feel anxious. After repeating trial and error, we were relieved to see the smiles of the students who finally cleared the regulations. It was impressive to see the students' innocent expressions gradually change to those of "engineers."

Report No. 5 of the 2022 Conference

Incidentally, the team that won the overall excellence award this time is from Kyoto Institute of Technology, with a total score of 913.57 points. They achieved first place in the design award, cost award, presentation award, skid pad award, autocross award, and endurance award, and also received the special award for jump-up, resulting in an impressive performance. Our company is also a sponsor of the overall excellence award.
