Tire Rolling Resistance Test System

This system complies with ISO28580:2018 and can accurately measure the rolling resistance of various tires individually.
In addition to simultaneous measurement of tire loss resistance and rolling resistance coefficient for each driving mode (JC08, WLTC), it also supports bench coasting tests, constant acceleration and deceleration tests, and transient mode tests.
Furthermore, by adding options, it is also possible to verify the impact of temperature changes in rollers and tires on tire losses.
Applicable standards: ISO 28580: 2018 (MOD), JASOE015

System Configurations

  • Features
  • Running resistance control is possible with a motor for Laura (similar to a chassis dynamometer).

  • Driven by a motor for rollers, speed control is possible.

  • Driven by a motor for tires, it allows for speed control and mode operation.

  • It is possible to calculate rolling resistance and loss work amount from two axis torque detectors.

  • The air cylinder can adjust the pressing load in accordance with changes in acceleration.

Case Studies

Measurement of rolling resistance coefficient by steady-state test

The tires are rotated at a constant speed of 80 km/h to measure the rolling resistance coefficient from the driving torque. Similarly, measurements can be taken at any arbitrary rotational speed.

Measurement of Rolling Resistance Coefficient by Coasting Test

It is possible to measure the rolling resistance coefficient using the coast-down method, similar to that on a chassis dynamometer.

Measurement points: 80, 60, 40, 20 km/h
Load conditions: 3826 N
Warm-up conditions: 60 km/h for 30 minutes before testing
