Carbon offsetting of CO2 emissions from participating vehicles

Partnership agreement concluded with the All Japan Super Formula Championship

Ono Sokki Green Factory Activities

Ono Sokki Co., Ltd. (President: Yuji Okoshi), a manufacturer and distributor of electronic measuring instruments, is pleased to announce that on March 7, 2025, it concluded a partnership agreement with Nippon Race Promotion Co., Ltd. (President: Yoshihisa Ueno), the organizer of the All Japan Super Formula Championship (hereinafter referred to as SUPER FORMULA).

  • Ono Sokki Green Factory initiative: Carbon offsetting of CO2 emissions from participating vehicles through partnership agreement with the All Japan Super Formula Championship.

Currently, our company is actively working to address carbon neutrality, one of the challenges surrounding sustainability, under the name "Ono Sokki Green Factory Activities," which began in 2024. As part of these activities, we have installed solar power generation equipment at our production base, the "Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center," and are also supporting green activities through the purchase of "J-Credits"*.
This partnership aims to offset the CO2 emissions of vehicles participating in the SUPER FORMULA series in 2025 by utilizing our "J-Credits." Specifically, we plan to offset 173.5 tons of CO2 emissions calculated from the amount of gasoline that vehicles are expected to use in all races (including test days) in 2025. Through this partnership, we will contribute to the realization of a sustainable mobility society.

*This is a baseline and credit scheme operated by the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. It certifies greenhouse gas emission reductions and absorption amounts through the introduction of energy-saving and renewable energy equipment and forest management as J-Credits. As of November 2023, there are 70 methodologies, and it aims to achieve a balance between the environment and the economy by promoting energy-saving and low-carbon investments by households, small and medium-sized enterprises, and local governments, and by stimulating the circulation of funds within Japan through the use of credits.

Key points of this presentation

  • Ono Sokki has positioned addressing sustainability-related issues as a key management priority and is actively working to achieve this.
  • We will use our "J-Credits" to carbon offset the CO2 emissions from our SUPER FORMULA participating vehicles.

Ono Sokki Green Factory Activity Introduction

Ono Sokki Green Factory Activity Introduction_No.1

① Installation of solar power generation equipment (Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center)

The solar power generation facility has an annual capacity of approximately 200,000 kWh, which accounts for about 5% of the facility's electricity needs.

② Installation of EV charging facilities (Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center)

Two charging stations (AC 200 V, 6 kW output) are installed in the parking lot. They are available for use by customers and our employees.

③ Introduction of renewable energy (Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center)

Starting in fiscal year 2024, we have switched 100% of the high-voltage electricity used in our production facilities to green electricity. This change to renewable energy will result in an annual reduction of 1,700 t-CO2.

④ Changed factory lighting to LED (Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center)

We have replaced all the lighting used in the factory from fluorescent lamps to LEDs. This change in lighting will result in an annual reduction of approximately 198,000 kWh. In terms of CO2 emissions, this translates to an annual reduction of approximately 77 t-CO2.

⑤ Natural environment conservation activities through the purchase of J-Credits

We support local forest conservation activities by purchasing J-Credits from companies within Tochigi Prefecture. We regularly hold forest events (weeding and tree planting) to deepen understanding of the importance of forests. In addition, we support the green activities of other companies by purchasing J-Credits derived from energy conservation.

⑥ Change the packaging material of our standard products to recyclable paper-based packaging material.

By switching from resin-based packaging materials to recyclable paper-based packaging materials, we can reduce CO2 emissions. The packaging materials used are FSC-certified paper*.

* Paper made using wood from forests that are strictly managed with the aim of protecting forest resources.

⑦ Change the garbage bags used at domestic facilities to environmentally friendly ones.

While the reduction in CO2 emissions is small, we are doing what we can.

⑧ Carbon offsetting of CO2 emissions from SUPER FORMULA participating vehicles (NEW)

We will offset CO2 emissions of 173.5 tons, calculated from the total gasoline consumption projected for the 2025 season.

CO2 emission calculation

We conduct calculations covering Scope 1 and 2 emissions at all our domestic locations (3 domestic locations + 7 sales offices). Through these activities, we achieved a 51% reduction in CO2 emissions in 2024 compared to 2022. Towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, each employee will proactively and voluntarily engage in environmentally conscious activities, supporting a better life for people and striving to balance the preservation of a rich global environment with the sustainable growth of our company.

  • Scope 1: Direct greenhouse gas emissions by the business itself (fuel combustion, industrial processes)

  • Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the use of electricity, heat, and steam supplied by other companies.

  • CO2 emission calculation
