New NV evaluation test facility for drivetrain units installed in Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center Automotive Testing Lab

  • New NV evaluation test facility for drivetrain units installed in Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center Automotive Testing Lab

We have recently installed new testing equipment in the Automotive Testing Lab at the Utsunomiya Technical & Product Center and have begun using it as an NV (*) evaluation test bench for drivetrain units.
*NV: Noise, Vibration

This facility features a drive system unit performance test bench manufactured by Ono Sokki, installed in a semi-anechoic chamber surrounded by sound-absorbing materials. This allows for the measurement of radiated sound and vibration, as well as performance evaluation of transmission characteristics, of drive system units. The background noise level in the semi-anechoic chamber is 35 dB or less, providing capabilities equivalent to those of major automobile manufacturers' R&D facilities. It can accurately measure sound emitted by the object being measured, even at low levels.
Furthermore, the facility is equipped with an adjoining battery simulation device to support motor evaluation testing of electric vehicles, and a new type of lubricating oil temperature control system has been installed. This system enables quick and highly accurate control of oil temperature changes that affect loss measurement in the drivetrain unit, thereby reducing the time required for loss measurement to half of the conventional time (compared to our previous system).

In today's automotive industry, the increasing prevalence of electric vehicles has led to improvements in vehicle quietness, but this has also brought to light new challenges related to the NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) performance of components that were previously not given much attention. As a result, there is a growing need for countermeasures against noise and vibration problems.

Furthermore, in car manufacturing, Model-Based Development (MBD), a development method that utilizes models and simulations, is becoming mainstream. Through our facilities, which can handle a wide range of tasks from efficiency measurement to NVH evaluation testing, we contribute to our customers' noise and vibration countermeasures and the promotion of model-based development.

Announcement of Web Exhibition

Due to the cancellation of the Automotive Engineering Exposition 2020, we have made the panels and other content that were planned for the exhibition available as a web exhibition on our company website.

At the online exhibition, under the concept of "Measurement Solutions Supporting MBD," we are showcasing measurement solutions necessary for promoting MBD in each process of "phenomenon understanding," "modeling," and "verification," and you can also see the measurement example of the drivetrain unit performance test bench mentioned in this press release.
We will continue to update the publicly available content with new information from June onwards.
