We have discovered a defect in the ORF file reading function of the Oscope Professional/Oscope2 product you recently purchased. We would like to inform you of the details of the defect and the availability of a version upgrade for the affected product, as detailed below. Details of the problem
There was an error in the process of reading data from an ORF file and converting it to a voltage value. A 1-bit discrepancy occurred when converting 16-bit or 24-bit integer data to a voltage value. *The same problem is occurring in the recording function (OSRECO).
- 16-bit stored ORF: Difference of 1/2 to the power of 15 (32,768) (maximum)
- 24-bit saved ORF: Difference of 1/2^23 (8,388,608) (maximum)
The difference is greatest in the input voltage range of 30 dBVrms (= 31.62 Vrms).
For 16-bit stored data, a maximum difference of 0.000965 Vrms can occur (31.62 Vrms × 1/32768 = 0.000965 Vrms).
The ratio is incorrect/correct = 31.62 / (31.62 - 0.000965) = 1.0000305, error 0.00305%.
Converting to dB, we get 20 × log10 (1.0000305) = 0.000265 dB.
countermeasure
We will fix the software bug and provide you with the corrected version.
By installing the updated software on the computer currently using Oscope, Oscope will be updated and improved.
